Stav offers a highly effective martial art. This is taught primarily with walking staff (shoulder height) and walking stick. These are effective weapons in their own right, and very practical in the modern world. Training with these also teaches the use of other traditional weapons that follow the same lines: sword; axe; spear. The short stick or "tein" is also used for teaching knife work and in the final instance the student learns unarmed self-defence.
The quality of Stav's martial art is attested to by the number of Stav practitioners who work or have worked in security where danger is part of their everyday life. Stav emphasizes principles over techniques, so that any student, regardless of individual differences, can find a methodology within it that will work for him or herself.
